Aglika Angelova, piano
Born to a scientist mother and a medical professor father in Varna,
Bulgaria, Aglika Angelova began studying the piano at the age of four.
Perennially at the head of her class, both academically and musically,
Aglika developed a taste for hard work at an early age. Rarely having
anything better to work with than a broken down upright piano, Aglika
nevertheless dove into her musical studies with uncommon zeal and determination.
This trend continued through her studies in Hamburg with the renowned
pedagogue, Volker Banfield, who had this to say of his student: “Like
all imaginative people, Aglika needs the kick of risk and facing the
seemingly impossible. Yet, in the end, she always develops a healthy
sense of realism. One of her great assets is that she is in no way conceited,
always listens to advice, and, even if she only follows it in part, considers
it in seriousness.” Aglika’s mainly solo career in Europe
was transformed when she came to the U.S. in 1997. Chamber music recitals
at festivals around the country sparked her imagination, and it was not
long after that the Jupiter Trio came into being.
